Maremma also offers an extraordinary combination of Italian archaeology, art and history with its
Etruscan necropolises and museums (Orbetello was a site settlement and development of the most ancient Mediterranean cultures. Even today the township is still surrounded by Etruscan walls): Etruscan towns and burials sites scattered through the Maremma hinterland ( Sovana, Roselle , Vetulonia, Populonia, etc.), form the destination for fascinating excursions and archaeological visits.
Roman archaeological sites , ( the ancient Roman Town of “Cosa” with the museum and the excavations are just a few kilometers away). Nearby the border of the Tuscany 's Maremma there is one of the most important ancient roman site: Vulci.
Mediaeval and renaissance historic towns , the layout of the age old townships and hilltop villages further inland and off the usual tourist track ( Pitigliano, Sovana, Montemerano, Capalbio , Tarquinia, Massa Marittima , etc.).
“Scuola Senese” paintings and frescoes inside the romance churches: Sovana, Montemerano, Magliano, Grosseto, etc…
These are the destinations for some of the excursions included in our general Italian language and culture courses open to all students studying at the school. The services of a guide are included in the course fee
Orbetello also offers a very central location for those wishing to visit the wealth of art cities Tuscany and Lazio have to offer: Firenze, Siena, Pisa, Massa Marittima, Volterra, Faenza, San Gimignano, Viterbo, Rome, Bolsena, Vulci, Tuscania, Tarquinia, Cerveteri, Ostia Antica …and still more.
The school also organises trips to these and other locations at the weekend.
Students can decide to enrol for these trips during the course.
